You Deserve it Mama! Treat Yourself Mother’s Day Gift Guide | Chicago Moms Network

Motherhood is filled with up and downs everyday, but during a pandemic- WOWZA.  Between homeschooling, breaking up sibling squabbles, keeping up with more laundry then a sleep away camp should produce & cooking for what feels like an army (where does all of that food go?!), it’s a lot.  On top of the inevitable stress we’re all experiencing right now, it’s downright spirit crushing some days!  Ladies, you deserve to celebrate yourselves more than ever this year.  Rather than hoping for the perfect gift- treat yourself (or drop a few heavy hints)!

These are a few favorites from local businesses that I think any mom would be thrilled to receive- while supporting our community!

Krista K Boutique– So much goodness to choose from.  These huggies are tiny & perfect for everyday wear- even with sweats through quarantine!  I love that this bracelet looks layered, but it’s actually pre-attached & easy.  This simple necklace is perfect to symbolize the love for your kiddos, without feeling cheesy and it can be thrown on with a basic tee or layered with a tank.  I’d also add a few new Hanky Panky undies- because they’re perfect, but indulgent and I always need more!  This Clair V tote is a need for quarantine life!  It’s casual, but stylish for picking up curbside purchases we’re finally able to order this month 😉

Village Cycle Center –  We’re biking more than ever with the kids.  I normally rent a bike once we’re near the lake path because it’s easier, but with everything closed I need my own!  I love Village Cycle Center for their knowledge, easy returns and curbside option.  This cruiser would be my pick for comfort, and depending on your kids ages the option to add a child carrier is great.  I’m also loving this jogging stroller.  I’ve used my jogging stroller more than any other baby/child product I’ve ever purchased!  This one folds really flat- a necessity in the city!  (There’s also a pretty great sale happening this week!).

Alice & Wonder- This is by far one of my favorite shops in the city.  In edition to always finding the perfect tee or sundress, they have the cutest gifts and home items!  For a mom friend, I would drop this glass off with wine on her door step for a little surprise.  For me, I love having a rotation of light jackets while living in the Windy City- because even in the summer, it’s windy.  Lol.  Light jackets aren’t only great to throw on when there’s a breeze, or in air conditioning, but they’re great for keeping a dress or skirt from blowing up when tied around the waist!  Between the neutral camo & denim, every outfit should be covered.

Art Effect-  The home goods in this shop are SO good!  This year they’ve put together the absolute cutest gifts for any type of mom.  So while I’m grabbing this tied dye tee for myself (as a good reminder I obviously need it), along with the cutest denim ever,  I’ll be sending my mom the salsa kit or gardening kit.

All She Wrote–  This is one of those shops that you stop in for a quick card & you end up spending an hour buying things that you never knew you needed, but can’t leave without!  That’s how I first stumbled upon one of my now favorite mom items of all time- Corkcicle to go cups.  Obsessed.  This brand isn’t as heavy as many, but sturdy & they come in the best patterns and colors (Rifle Paper company everything please!).  These come in very handy right now while walking circles around the block or chalking the driveway for the 100th time;)  Fill it with coffee or wine, whatever you need to make it through the moment.

Love, Sugar & Grace-  This delicious bake shop has ALL your needs covered!  Order for your own home celebration, for a friend or family member- they’ll even deliver to the suburbs (25 mile delivery radius from 60642! How amazing is that?!).  This year, the shop collaborated with Christine Janda Design & Events, LBrown Design & Paperie, and award winning pastry chef Pedro Gomez to put together complete packages that are boxed beautifully- and the macaroons… you won’t be able to stop eating.

Outside of retail therapy,  my last treat yourself idea is one anyone can use, A BREAK.
Here are 3 levels of suggestions!

-Ask your partner for a much needed break from the kids!  Grab a to go cup, ear buds, and go for a walk or simply sit in the park and read- whatever helps you zen out.

-Plan ahead for a fun day out with girlfriends when we’re able to!  The Chicago Electric Boat Company is booking into the summer for groups of 10 (completely within the social distancing guidelines!).  I would order an assortment of snacks + drinks from FoxTrot Market to deliver to me, grab the bag and head to the river with it!  Easy & fun!

-Better than a single day out, book a full weekend away in June.  Fathers Day is probably going to fall right around the time of the stay at home order lifting (at least a little I hope!).  Gift each other by taking turns getting away for a weekend- or if you’re still feeling the family time love, go somewhere the entire team will enjoy!  Either way, when June hits we’re all going to be ready for a new landscape.  Planning a vacation is said to be just as therapeutic as actually going!

However you decided to mark the day this year, remember that each and ever day you’re irreplaceable to your family.  Good or bad days, you’re their super hero.  Happy Mother’s Day Mama’s!
