The Children’s Books You Need in Your Library This Fall! | Chicago Moms Network

One of my absolute FAVORITE parts about being a parent is getting to explore the beautiful children’s book sections in some of my favorite book stores, especially the seasonal displays! I love to rotate the books in our home and bring festive books to the forefront, especially at this time of year. We always add a book or two to our collection each season, and a visit to Unabridged Bookstore to browse their curated selection has become a fun tradition in our family!

Fun fact: They also have the most AMAZING travel books – a whole room of them in fact! File that away for when we can travel again…

We’ve definitely discovered some well-loved family favorites, so I wanted to share the Fall & Halloween books that we return to again and again! Clicking the titles below will take you to the Unabridged Bookstore website where you can purchase – let’s support our local small businesses together!

Pick a Pumpkin by Patricia Toht

The illustrations in this book are absolutely gorgeous! We love to follow along with the transformation of an ordinary pumpkin into a glowing jack-o’-lantern. Best for ages 3-7.

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn by Kenard Pak

We love all of the books in this series (Goodbye Autumn, Hello Winter, etc.) as such a fun way to mark the changing seasons! My kids love to point out all the signs of autumn coming in the forest and in town as we read each page. Best for ages 4-7.

Where’s the Witch? by Nosy Crow & Ingela P. Arrhenius

I adore the felt flaps in this book, and so does my son! No ripping!! Your little one will love looking for spooky creatures behind the felt flaps on each page, and will adore the mirror surprise on the last page. Best for ages 0-3.

Ready for Pumpkins by Kate Duke

This is a funny and charming book that shows not just how seeds grow into plants, but also how you need patience to see a long project through! Best for ages 4-7.

Boo! ¡Bu! by Leslie Patricelli

This is currently my little guy’s favorite to pull off the shelf, he loves the illustrations of little kids dressed up in costume! It’s a Spanish-English dual language book as well! Best for ages 0-3.

B is for Boo by Greg Paprocki

My daughter could stare at the retro style illustrations in this book for HOURS! There is a mesmerizing scene on each page highlighting a different letter of the alphabet, with a Halloween twist of course. Best for ages 0-3.

Little Blue Truck’s Halloween by Alice Schertle

We are huge Little Blue Truck fans in this household! In this book, Little Blue Truck picks up all of his friends for a Halloween costume party. We love that it’s a lift-the-flap book, of course! Best for ages 0-3.

EEK! Halloween! by Sandra Boynton

If you can’t tell from the picture, this is one of our most loved books! Not only does it cause my kids to break out in hysterical laughter, it happens to make me laugh out loud as well 🙂 Best for ages 0-4.

Happy Fall Reading Everyone!!!
